Sonar Calibration System
Inventor: Kenneth Foote
Publication No. US20160069988 A1
Overview: Sonar calibration is often complicated, error-prone, and expensive, particularly as the sonar device must be unmounted from the vehicle and sent offsite for the procedure. As such, sonar calibration is frequently neglected, and the sonar device may be unreliable over time. Furthermore, calibration protocols are generally system-specific.
Technology: This sonar calibration method is designed to enable unprecedented flexibility in sonar calibration and provides high accuracy at a low cost. Both moving and stationary sonar devices may employ this method to perform calibration in situ during operations using a standard target by enabling backscattering data to be expressed in physical units, with associated advantages.
