WHOI Receives Patent for Collapsible, Portable Vertical Axis Wind Turbine

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Office for Technology Transfer is excited to announce the issuance of a new patent for a collapsible and stowable vertical axis turbine (US Patent No. 12,110,676). This new device’s design offers a compact, portable solution for generating renewable wind energy, making it perfect for a range of applications, from off-grid energy systems to boats and RVs.

Unlike traditional wind turbines, which need to be assembled on-site and can be damaged in high winds, this new invention features a wind turbine that can be collapsed and stored when not in use. The generator is housed in a protective shell and can be easily deployed and transported when stowed without creating wind resistance. This invention is ideal for consumers and industries that need a reliable, portable energy source.
